Nautical Nostalgia

Oceanside Harbor will be full of nautical nostalgia this weekend during the city's third annual Tall Ships Festival, the North County Times reported.

Three ships -- the Privateer Lynx, the revenue cutter Californian and the topsail schooner Amazing Grace -- will participate in the event. (The Lynx sailed in Nov. 1 and has been offering dockside tours all week.)

Festival opening ceremonies will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, during which 35 local Marines and their families will take a free sail on the Lynx, the paper reported. Winds permitting, the Lynx will sail out of the harbor and rendezvous at sea with the two other tall ships. All three are scheduled to sail back into Oceanside Harbor on Friday afternoon if all goes well, according to event organizer Liz Rhea.

The full festival will get under way Saturday with two days of boat tours, battle sails and a dockside festival with costumed pirates, live entertainment, vendors and even some mermaids.
