He put the Galapagos Islands on the map and his theories about evolution in the text books.

Charles Darwin, explorer and naturalist, was born 200 years ago, his life's work, "On the Origin of Species", 50 years later.

Both are celebrated at a new exhibit at the San Diego Natural History Museum which opens this weekend and runs through the last day of February, 2010.

Visitors can see personal items from Darwin's original magnifying glass, pistol, Bible, notebooks and letters. Also on display will be actual specimens collected by Darwin including bugs and fossils.

Tickets are $16 for adults, $11 for students with ID and $10 for children 3 through 12. For more information call (877) 946-7797.
