Tough times are not enough to keep the car nuts down.

Just a hop, skip and a jump up the 15, San Bernardino hosted their 20th annual end-of-summer Route 66 Rendezvous this past weekend. Each September, much of downtown is roped off to host nearly 500,000 spectators for an automotive event that is among the best on the West Coast.

Numerous auto-related activities are scheduled (burnout contest, anyone?), there is a variety of food and souvenir vendors, and even carnival rides, but it's really about cruisin' with the hottest cars and coolest people mingling throughout the day and well into the evening.

Hats off to the Convention and Visitors Bureau and all those involved in putting on this show. It is always amazing, the way this city steps aside to let the car nuts take over for some noisy fun while keeping the atmosphere safe and family friendly.
