San Diegans have a rare opportunity to view unforgettable images of American icons at a Solana Beach art gallery.

Leigh Wiener's camera captured images of the powerful and the famous, according to the New York Times. Visitors to the Ordover Gallery will see arresting images of everyone from President John F. Kennedy to Grace Kelly to Frank Sinatra to until April 12 at the exhibit "Icons of the '50s and '60s: The Historic Black & White Photography of Leigh Wiener."

"His idea of a portrait was not necessarily a duplication of an image, but that it should be a revelation where you should learn something about their person, " Wiener's son Devik told the La Jolla Light

Wiener loved the psychology of photographing people because he understood the insecurities and fears that people experience in front of a camera, Devik told the paper.

Wiener died at 62 in May 1993. His doctors attributed his death to Sweet's syndrome, due to exposure to radiation. According to his obituary, Wiener was exposed to radiation when he photographed atomic-bomb tests near Las Vegas for Life magazine after World War II.

The Ordover Gallery is located at 410 S. Cedros Ave. in Solana Beach.
