Taste, touch and see some of the slimiest, creepiest bugs around at the Annual Insect and Garden Festival at the Quail; Botanical Gardens in Encinitas July 11-12.
It's a one of a kind event that draws huge crowds. Featured are live insects, lizards, snakes and the famous Madagascar Hissing Cockroach, one of the largest species of cockroaches. Yuck!
But if you are really into bugs, you can eat, yes, eat cooked meal worm larva. And you can choose your favorite flavor: teriyaki, barbeque or mesquite.
If feathered friends are more your preference, entomologist, Dr. Mike Glassey will bring his hawks and owls for some close viewing.
There will also be more than 20 informational booths with experts on gardening, bug-collecting, pest control. And if you're not into the cooked meal worm larva, there will be lots of other "good food" to fill you up.
The event which is a big hit with the kids will also feature crafts and entertainment.
