Military Reporter Lea Sutton Joins NBC 7 San Diego

San Diego, CA – September 28, 2011 – Military reporter Lea Sutton joins the NBC 7 San Diego news team. A former navy fighter pilot who flew F/A-18’s in Iraq and Afghanistan, Sutton brings a unique perspective to her new role as San Diego’s exclusive television reporter devoted solely to military issues. Sutton joins NBC 7 San Diego from the NBC News Washington Bureau where she worked as one-man-band reporter for NBC News in Washington D.C. Before that, Sutton worked as a U.S. Navy Intelligence Operations Officer. Embedded with a Navy SEAL unit during Operation Enduring Freedom, Sutton conducted international intelligence operations in Afghanistan.

“Lea Sutton is an extraordinary talent and we’re thrilled to have her as the newest member of our NBC 7 San Diego news family,” said Greg Dawson, Vice President of News for NBC 7 San Diego. “San Diego is home to the world’s largest military community and no other reporter in town has the experience and depth of understanding that Lea brings to her military stories.”

Sutton is already active in San Diego’s military community, reporting live throughout the day at NBC 7 San Diego’s Operation Caregiver drive earlier this month. Sutton will also lend a helping hand at the NBC 7 San Diego Salute to Service Festival at Liberty Station on November 5, 2011.
